Machine Inletted Stocks and Forends

Machine Inletted which is also referred to as Semi-Inletted or ninety five percent inletted,‭ ‬these items have been machine shaped and inletted and the necessary holes have been drilled.‭ (‬there are specific stocks that may have a hole that is drilled during the fitting process and cannot be predrilled‭)‬ These pieces are left slightly oversized to allow for the variances in the gun metal and will require final fitting to the action,‭ ‬trimming to the metal where the wood meets the action as well as‭ ‬final sanding,‭ ‬checkering if desired and application of desired finish.‭ ‬The two piece pump/auto pieces will take the least amount of skill to fit,‭ ‬boxlock over/unders and side by sides and centerfire bolt action rifles will require a higher skill level.‭ ‬Sidelock guns should be reserved for trained professionals.‭ ‬Suppliers such as Brownells will have all the necessary tools needed such as files,‭ ‬chisels,‭ ‬gouges,‭ ‬finishes,‭ ‬inletting pins,‭ ‬etc.

Hand Fit Stocks and Forends

For those customers that would like to do the final shaping or fitting of the stock to themselves but do not want to try the fitting of the wood to the metal,‭ ‬we offer pieces that will be hand fit to your action.‭ ‬These can be ordered with extra wood left in places of your choice or just as the duplicated pattern.‭ ‬Recoil pads are not supplied with these stocks as standard but can be supplied or installed at an additional charge.‭

Custom‭ ‬Shotgun‭ Fitting Service

Our custom‭ shotgun‭ ‬fitting service will give you the benefits of reduced recoil,‭ ‬point of impact placement,‭ ‬ease of mounting and will make your gun more enjoyable to shoot.‭ ‬The fitting will concentrate on proper positioning of the recoil pad in your shoulder pocket,‭ ‬comfortable grip with your finger behind the trigger and‭  ‬the palm swell if desired being properly sized and located,‭ ‬and then the proper comb configuration to provide the desired point of impact Our eye is the rear sight on the shotgun and the only way we have to adjust the point of impact is with the stock,‭ ‬and although that desired point of impact can vary with individual shooter as well as the application,‭ ‬the adjustment still has to be made with the stock.‭ ‬In years past the‭ “‬Try Gun‭” ‬method was used and is still used by some stock makers,‭ ‬we found that even though there are a number of adjustments on one of these it was still not possible to achieve the best fit.‭ ‬We start with an actual stock and file off wood,‭ ‬add back with body filler until we get an actual fitted stock that then becomes the pattern.‭ ‬We do fittings daily here at our shop by appointment.‭ ‬You should plan on the day here,‭ ‬we will start in the morning and build the pattern,‭ ‬once you have selected the wood we will then machine it,‭ ‬fit it to your action and have you shooting the gun that afternoon with the actual stock doing any necessary fine tuning.‭ ‬Complete finish time from that point will vary depending on desired checkering,‭ ‬finish,‭ ‬etc.
